Photograph
Color photographs, five, of flooding from Hurricane Sandy on First Street between Adams and Grand Streets, Hoboken, October 30, 2012.
8-1/2" x 11" inkjet prints, orientation varies. Photographs taken by Michael A. Melendez. Reverse of each has holographic notes by photographer with date.
All shots are elevated views apparently taken from an apartment window, probably at 403 First St. No people are identified.
Photo 1: view northwest of the intersection of First and Adams Streets. At center is a payloader; two National Guard trucks on the street. The building at the top center (northwest corner of Adams and First) is 450 First St.
Photo 2: same direction, but a closer view of the truck at the left in photo 1.
Photo 3: view is the north side of First Street, but taken much earlier before the water receded; a woman is seen heading west with a small girl being carried on her back; note the transformer vault in the background - it is about fifty feet west of Grand Street.
Photo 4: view is of the north side of First Street between Grand and Adams Streets (entrance drive to housing is behind the people.) Photo was taken later than photo 3 as it can be seen that the flood waters have receded. The woman and man are walking east on First; he wears white trash bags protecting his legs when fording through flooded areas; she wears knee high boots, but is carrying the same type of bags.
Photo 5: view of a location similar to photo 4, but earlier than that one (water has not receded); woman is carrying a colorful cloth bag; water is nearly knee deep.
