Sepia-tone group portrait of 4 Stover family daughters of 1037 Bloomfield St., Hoboken, Christmas 1943.
Photograph
Sepia-tone group portrait of four daughters of the Stover family of 1037 Bloomfield St., Hoboken, Christmas 1943.
8" x 10" wide print. Professional portrait, photographer/studio not indicated. Ink inscription on photo: Xmas Present to Ma - 1943 -.
The girls are not identified and the name of their mother is not given. The attribution of the subjects as part of the Stover family is based on a Jim Hans note regarding provenance that came with the print: "The Old Stofer[sic] house on Bloomfield St. was out of the family's hands by Sept. 1996." "(John D. Stover 1037 Bloom - 1897 Directory.)" It would appear that the item was rescued from discarded materials at that address.
The Stover family at the residence in 1943 would have included Arthur E. Stover (Hoboken High School principal) who was known to have been married and his brother, Edward Stover, a lawyer (matrimonial state not established.) Which family these children belonged to has not yet been established.
Reverse has previous small photos attached with ink captions, but none apparently related to the portrait of the girls.
