Sepia-tone photo of 2 young children posed in studio, Hoboken, n.d., ca. 1890-1910.
Photograph
Sepia-tone photo of two young children posed in a studio, Hoboken, no date, circa 1890-1910.
2" x 2-3/4" high print on roughly trimmed 2-1/4" wide x 3-7/8" high photographer's mount (original size apparently 2-5/8" wide x 4-1/8" high). Photograph by Brown's Photo, 13th and Washington Streets, Hoboken, N.J. (imprint on back); also name "Brown's" partially seen on front in lower border.
The name "Brown's Photos" was apparently a general name used by this photographer who was also known to have used the name "Brown's Penny Photographs" at same location on the slightly smaller penny photos (2" x 3").
A girl(?), circa 3 years old, is standing on a chair with her brother(?), wearing eyeglasses, standing next to her. Both have large brimmed hats and wear a loose dark belt (sword?) at their waist. They are not identified.
The clothing fashions and the chair style suggests it was taken earlier than later in the estimated date range.
Not considered as a carte-de-visite (CDV), but may have been used in that manner.
