Photograph
Sepia-tone photo of the German Seamen's Institute (Home) at 60-64 Hudson St., Hoboken, no date, ca. 1912. Photo by William Manewal. 8" x 10" print mounted on 10" x 14" brittle single-weight board with holographic ink caption at the upper left corner.
The view is looking northwest. Lettering on the cornice: Deutsches Seemannhaus. This is an early photo of the building as the institute. A few years later there was 2 floor extension to the front of the building to the sidewalk line. The building (demolished early 1970's) was on the west side of Hudson St. at the end of Ferry St. (now Hudson Place). The building to the right is the Eagan School of Business. Note the streetcar tracks and overhead wires to the south side of the building. Circa 1970 to the present, this site has been a parking lot. For another view of these buildings see photo catalog 2003.020.0020.
