Trade card: Busch's Hotel, corner of Hudson and Third Sts., Hoboken, N.J. No date, ca. 1883-1898. 3-1/4" high x 5-7/16" wide. Advertising on front with map on reverse.
An engraved view of the hotel building.
Printed in black with red overprinting or imprinting. For proprietor, "Estate of H.D. Busch" is overprinted with red line and imprinted above it "Kleeman & Senius,". "H. Schultze, Jr., Manager" is overprinted with red line. Imprinted at the bottom edge in red ink: "Agency of the celebrated "FRANKENBRAU" Beer from Bamberg, (Bavaria)."
"Rooms with or without Board by the Day or Week." "Restaurant a la Carte & Table d'hote."
Text at right: "Near the Bremen, Hamburg (Hamburg-America), Rotterdam and Thingvalla Steamship Landings." The Thingvalla Line was purchased by the Scandinavian America Line in 1898 and operated it under their name. Locally it may have still have been called the "Thingvalla" piers as that name appears in records of the 1900 pier fire.
The map on back is oriented to the German traveller. The German Consulate is indicated near Castle Garden in New York and with the travel agency Oelrichs & Co. a few blocks away. New York streetcar and elevated lines (including Belt Line) are shown along with ferries on the Battery, North and East Rivers. Brooklyn Bridge.
Hoboken piers for Hamburg S.S. [Steamship] and Bremen S.S. are noted along with the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad Terminal and the ferries.
