Notes: Source: https://bulk.resource.org/courts.gov/c/F2/592/592.F2d.658.29.78-6054.html On April 10, 1975, PA [Port Authority of New York & New Jersey] adopted new bridge tolls effective May 5, 1975; this was the first increase in more than four decades. PA raised the standard automobile round trip rate on its four bridges from $1 to $1.50, and the commuter round trip rate from 50 cents to $1, and increased the truck rate by 50%. Bus tolls were not increased and PA instituted a carpool discount whereby vehicles carrying three or more persons during weekdays would be charged only $.50. ==== source: http://www.panynj.gov/press-room/press-item.cfm?headLine_id=1589 PORT AUTHORITY ANNOUNCES CHANGES TO ACCEPTANCE OF TOLL TICKETS AT ITS VEHICULAR CROSSINGS Date: May 24, 2012 Press Release Number: 78-2012 The Port Authority today announced it will no longer accept toll tickets – known as Toll Scrip and Universal Tickets – in the toll lanes of its bridges and tunnels beginning July 1, 2012. The agency will continue to refund tickets held by the public at their original sales value. The Port Authority issued the toll tickets years ago to users of its bridges and tunnels to help reduce the transaction time for toll payment, which in turn would help improve traffic flow and reduce congestion. As an incentive for customers to use the more efficient toll payment system, the tickets provided the buyer with a 10 percent discount off the toll. The first toll scrip was issued on August 9, 1951 at a 10 percent discount and were “good until used.” The Port Authority stopped selling the tickets after it started using the E-Z Pass electronic toll collection system in 1997, which discounts all E-ZPass transactions. The agency continues to use E-ZPass today. ==== source: http://www.panynj.gov/bridges-tunnels/tolls-scrip.html Port Authority Scrip and Universal tickets acceptance for toll payment at Port Authority tunnels and bridges ended June 30, 2012. ==== ==== Status: OK Status By: dw Status Date: 2013-07-06
