Photograph
Color photograph of Hoboken City Hall, 94 Washington Street, decorated with bunting for Centennial, April, 1955.
3-1/2" x 5-3/4" wide Kodacolor print; Made by Eastman Kodak Company, Week Ending Apr. 9, 1955. Photographer: attributed to Mel Kiernan, Hoboken.
The photo was likely taken some time before or after the March 27, 1955, parade for the one hundreth anniversary of the Incorporation of the City of Hoboken. (If close to the parade, there would have been reviewing stands present in front of City Hall.)
While a color photograph, the original color has shifted dramatically and for use, a desaturated (black-and-white) adjusted scan is present with this record.
Two signs are mounted on the grounds bordering the building:
A large one on the Washington Street side, "Caution Courtesy," is about traffic rules and includes tallies - "Traffic Deaths This Year" and "Days Since Last Traffic Death." Red and green traffic lights are mounted at the top. "Keep This Light Green"; "The Red Light Burns for Three Days After a Fatal Accident."
A smaller one is on the Newark Street side has only "YOU" legible.
