Notes: Note the differences between pass 1 and a blank pass of the same type in archives 2013.005.0197 where that one has NO additional printed text above "Date Issued" about countersignatures. Pass 1 was apparently issued, but inkstamped at some later time. See archives 2013.005.0196 passes, issued in the 1960s but also having the same SAMPLE inkstamp. It can be speculated that the SAMPLE inkstamp was a convenient way to mark expired passes as cancelled. While both passes were issued with the intention that they would be good through the end of 1977, the Erie Lackawanna Railway (Railroad was renamed Railway in 1968) which was in the bankruptcy mentioned above and ceased to operate as that company in 1976. It became part of CONRAIL who did continue operations and thus the passes may have been invalidated by the managerial change. Transportation passes for employees, current and retired, and their families were traditional and, although not stated, probably an entitlement as part of union agreements / contracts with the railroad. ==== transportation / ticket / pass Status: OK Status By: dw Status Date: 2013-08-06
