Sign: Davis OK Baking Powder double-sided die-cut hanging card, no date, circa 1938-1940.
Printed double-weight cardstock, printed two sides, die-cut, 4-1/4" wide x 8" high; single hang hole centered at top; bottom hole punched later for attachment to a Davis cookbook (see below.) Top string loop for hanging; bottom string loop attaching sign to recipe book.
Sign card depicts a typical product can and identifies it as R.B. Davis Co. and Hoboken, N.J. Also states: Six Sizes.
Form H-13-BP.
The cookbook is a copy of the second edition (1940) of Davis Master Pattern Baking Formulas (see archives 2010.007.0286 for a catalogued copy.)
While the sign would have been created for use in a retail store on or above shelf displays of Davis products, its reason for later attachment (the bottom hole size used indicates that it was a hole punch that was not the same diameter as the one at the top) to the cookbook is unknown but suggests that it was intended to be a display copy although it shows little wear typical of such use.
The weight of the 80-page glossy paper cookbook and the type of string makes it unlikely that the item would have actually been hung for display.
