Photograph
Sepia-tone group photograph of man, woman and children of various ages; Louise Sanntrock in group. Location not known, no date, circa 1890s.
7-3/4" x 9-3/4" wide print mounted on board.
Photographer not indicated.
Reverse blank except for modern ink notation by donors identifying Louise Sanntrock as 2nd row, 4th from left.
Louise Sanntrock was born in 1879 and from her apparent age in this photo, it is likely from the early 1890s.
Others are not identified in this group that was posed in a photographer's studio. Younger boys are on the floor in the front with girls and boys appearing ten to sixteen years old (with a couple appearing slightly older) around a man and woman at the center. The fine dress suggests an important occasion. The photo may be of a family group or church school group.
====
One of a group of photographs in this accession related to the Sanntrock family which lived in Hoboken from the later part of the 19th century until the early 20th century. Consisting of images of first and second generation German immigrants, the group reflects their German heritage and culture in fashions and content (some photographs are from Germany, apparently of relatives.)
