Photograph
Sepia-tone group photograph of Stevens Institute of Technology students and partners at a formal dance (Valentine's Ball), Hoboken, no date, circa 1925-1930.
11" x 14" wide print. Photograph taken by W[illiam]. Manewal (Hoboken photographer; credit in image at lower right.) Reverse has pencil and pen notations about size and copies to make or send.
The notations on back suggests that there was participation by a Stevens fraternity (William Bayley, Delta Tau Delta House.)
Stevens students were male only; women (their dates) were not admitted to the school at that time.
While Valentine's Day is unstated, the theme is shown by the extensive decorative use of hearts, crepe paper streamers and the printed border paper. The group is located in the rotunda of Stevens Castle (note marquetry floor and balustrade.)
