PUBLIC NOTICE A SUPPLEMENT TO AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED, “AN ORDINANCE TO ESTABLISH, MAINTAIN, REGULATE AND CONTROL THE POLICE DEPARTMENT IN AND FOR THE CITY OF HOBOKEN, AND TO PRESCRIBE AND ESTABLISH JUST RULES AND REGULATIONS RESPECTING SUCH DEPARTMENT FOR BETTER GOVERNMENT AND DISCIPLINE THEREOF.” passed February 11, 1919. The Board of Commissioners of the Mayor and Council of the City of Hoboken do ordain as follows: Section 1. The following rules and regulations respecting the Police Department of the Mayor and Council of the City of Hoboken, for the better government and discipline thereof, are hereby established: 1. No member shall become intoxicated either while on or off duty. 2. No member shall utter any indecent or profane language. 3. No m'ember shall wilfully disobey any order of the Director of the Department of Public Safety, the Chief of Police, or any superior officer. 4. No member shall show disrespect for or to a superior officer. 5. No member shall use unnecessary violence to any prisoner. 6. No member shall leave or be absent from his post of duty without just cause, be absent without leave, or not prope?:ly patrol his post. 7. No member shall neglect to pay his debts contracted while on the police force. 8. No member shall be guilty of immorality, indecency or lewdness, or violation of any criminal law or any City ordinance. 9. No member shall sleep while on duty. 10. No member shall enter or visit any place of ill repute or ill fam'e, gambling house or pool room, nor enter any premises where alcoholic beverages are sold or supplied, while in uniform, except on police business or in discharge of his duty. 11. No member shall make known any proposed action, movement, or the provisions of any order of the Police Department to any person not connected with the police force. 12. No member shall be guilty of misconduct, or conduct unbecoming an officer or a gentleman, or conduct subversive of good order and discipline of the force. 13. No member shall publicly comment in a derogatory manner or sense on the official action of the Director of the Department of Public Safety, the Chief of Police, or of a superior officer. 14. No member shall fail to report a known violation of the law or of an ordinance of the City of Hoboken, or accept any bribe or favor as a consideration either for the performance or non-performance of his duty. 15. No member shall visit any place of amusement while in uniform, except on police business. 16. No member shall fail to attend any drill or school of instruction at the time fixed or whenever ordered. 17. No member, when he has been suspended from office and afterwards reinstated, shall receive any pay or salary for the period of such suspension, unless otherwise ordered by the Director of r,he Department of Public Safety. Sec. 2. Any member of the police force who shall be found guilty of the violation of any one or more of the foregoing rules shall be subject to punishment therefor, either by reprimand, suspension, forfeiture and deduction of pay for the specified time, or dismissal from the force, in the judgment or discretion of the Director of the Department of Public Safety. Sec. 3. All of the rules and regulations heretofore promulgated by the Director of the Department of Public Safety of the City of Hoboken for the government and discipline of the Police Department, excepting such rules respecting discipline as are inconsistent with this ordinance, are hereby adopted.
