Photograph
Sepia-tone photographic portrait of John Schallmeyer taken by Christian Durstewitz, Hoboken or Jersey City Heights, no date, probably 1899.
3-7/16" wide x 5" high oval print on 5" x 7" embossed photographer's mount. Photograph taken by C. Durstewitz, 508 Washington Street, Hoboken, N.J.; 338 Central Avenue, Jersey City Heights. Front embossed at lower left in script: Durstewitz. Back has imprint as above; also pencil notation: My Father; modern label with ink notation: John Schallmayer [pencil] 1885.
Based on Saretzky (http://gary.saretzky.com/photohistory/njphotographers.html), the dates recorded for the two addresses then used by Durstewitz would place this print as 1899 even though the back carries the pencil note "1885." It is not indicated which studio was the site of this photograph.
