Trade card: Hamburg American Packet Co's Piers, Hoboken, N.J. "Hammonia" (1884). Chromolithographed card, 3-1/2" high x 6-1/4" wide. Printed text in black on back. Printer: The Major & Knapp Lith. Co. N.Y. Back has promotional text about sailings along with a calendar for 1884. Issued by C.B. Richard & Co., General Passenger Agents, 61 Broadway, New York; J.F. Meinke & Co., General Passenger Agents for the Pacific Coast, 401 California St. (first story), San Francisco, Cal. The Hoboken headhouse and piers (called then Hamburg Pier) are depicted which was their American home port. The steamship, S.S. Hammonia, is shown at the right. It was the Hammonia (3) which went into service in 1881. Note that it had both sail and steam power. ---- Hamburg-American Line / Hamburg-America Line / HAPAG / ocean / ship
