Object/Artifact
Postcard: [World War I Liberty Bond Ship Float, Hoboken, N.J.] Hoboken. Postmarked April 22, 1918. Photograpic print with imprinted (type not known; postage covers identity) back. Undivided back. 3-7/16" x 5-7/16" wide.
Photo by R. Magnus (Hoboken photographer) as credited in image. Exact street location not indicated except that on the date the card was mailed it was on Washington near Ninth Street; background has been removed from the image. It is presumed that the photograph was not taken at Ninth and Washington.
Sender's text on reverse explains the image: "This ship is helping Uncle Sam win the war. It started at 14th St. and now is at 9th and Washington Str. It moves a block for every $300,000 and all together Hoboken must get $4,200,000. These are real sailors on the ship. Are you still saving your pennies for Uncle Sam?" It was addressed to a young boy who was 8 years old or younger (salutation is "Master.")
