Hoboken. Worlds Dudes. Allen & Ginter's Cigarettes. Richmond Virginia. (1888).
Chromolithographed card, 1-1/2" wide x 2-3/4" high.
Tobacco card commonly called "Hoboken Dude" issued by Allen & Ginter, "One Packed in Each Box of Ten Cigarettes." Un-numbered series of fifty, all titles listed on back. ("Worlds" is commonly spelled with an apostrophe, as World's, although the word is not printed that way on the card.)
The depiction is a caricature of a man in fashion of the era. He has a monocle and cane. Printing quality is only fair. Although created for or by an American company for domestic distribution, the "Hoboken" of this card may be Hoboken, Belgium, rather than New Jersey.
Date attribution is the generally listed date of issue. No authority cited. References have called this series: World's Dudes (N31).
