Object/Artifact
Record: Maxwell House Coffee Time with George Burns & Gracie Allen. Volume 1. Original Radio Broadcasts. Produced by George Garabedian. Mark 56 Records, Anaheim, CA., copyright 1973. 12" 33 rpm phonographic record with album sleeve.
They were the hosts of this radio show from 1945-1949. Record label is printed "Original Radio Broadcast" not the plural "Broadcasts" as on the sleeve (as this was "Volume 1" the sleeve may refer to the intention of broadcasts as part of future volumes.) No date of the broadcast is given. Not played.
The comedians were in Hoboken on June 19, 1946 as part of the celebration of the centennial of baseball as played at Elysian Fields. Maxwell House Coffee was then based in Hoboken (since 1939.) The company was a or the sponsor of the event including a pamphlet about baseball history. The company's buildings were on the site of what is believed to be the area that the 1846 game was played. It is probable, but not definitely established, that the comedians' appearance were related to promotional duties for their radio show sponsor. (Burns and Allen were the hosts of the Maxwell House radio show for the period of Sept. 20, 1945 to June 23, 1949.)
