Metal and wood, 7-1/2" wide x 27-1/2" long x 2-1/2" high. Fully strung (32 strings); two sound holes (printed interior label in lower sound hole; upper label missing. With: original wire music holder; original bow (lacking horsehair) and two capos. See archives 2008.033.0002 to .0006 for documents accompanying the object and related to this musical instrument including original 1929 sales receipt. Bottom back has two blind stamped numbers: "33" and "884." Not aligned with each other and probably should be considered as separate numbers. They are apparently related to a model number and/or serial numbering. Authoritative information about this company's markings is not yet available. Intended to be played with the 18-1/2" long bow. Similar to the genre of fretless zithers known as Hawaiian Art Violin. Golden brown finish with the round sound holes that have marquetry decals surrounding them. The upper one is known as "Bud" and the lower, fancier one, as "International." Other decals present indicate notes and chords. The black label printed in gold that is found inside the bottom sound hole has the list price of $35.00, name of the instrument and manufacturer's information: "Distributed Exclusively by the International Music Corporation, 14th and Bloomfield Streets, Hoboken, N.J." (Note that the address is variously given as Fourteenth or Fifteenth Street.) Usually there are labels inside any sound holes present, but the one inside the top sound hole appears to have been scratched off.
