The Great Hoboken Auction, April 2008. Painting in oil on canvas by Chris Kappmeier. 19-3/4" high x 23-1/2" wide. Signed in work at lower right corner: Chris Kappmeier. Titled and signed with marker pen on the reverse by Kappmeier.
Scene is of the Hoboken Historical Museum's benefit auction on April 26, 2008 inside a tent erected for the day at Shipyard Park, 13th Street and Shipyard Lane. View is from the back of the seated audience to the "stage" and the auctioneer's podium. At center is auctioneer Eugene Flinn with the straw boater hat. At the left is John Keim at an electronic keyboard.
Kappmeier created the painting during the auction (ca. 5:30 to 8:30 pm) from the back right side of the seating area where people were able to observe him as he painted. It was auctioned as Live Auction lot no. 5. Purchaser donated the painted to the Museum at the end of the evening.
