The traditional time for honoring America’s working men and women has special significance for Hoboken this year. Tonight’s show heralds the opening of Pier A for the working people of Hoboken and the general public. The concert and fireworks display this evening preview the unique cultural, recreational and entertainment experiences that will result from the development of the Hoboken waterfront. Hyer, Executive Director. The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra is the second largest orchestra in the tri-state metropolitan area and the leading performing organization in the state. Within the last 20 years, the NJSO has developed an outstanding reputation through its performances throughout the state and its many performances at Carnegie Hall. In addition, the NJSO has performed to critical acclaim at Avery Fisher Hall, the United Nations, the Academy of Music in Philadelphia, Kennedy Center and Wolf Trap Farm in Washington, D.C. and on nationwide television. Recently the Orchestra was heard by millions nationwide for the telecast of Luciano Pavarotti’s historic concert with the NJSO at Madison Square Garden. Garden State Fireworks The company is under the direction of August and Nunzio Santore, Jr., the famous Santore Brothers, and is the present title holder of the International Grand World Fireworks Championship in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Tonight the choreographed-to-music segments of the fireworks program have been designed by Bruce Bassman. Comfort and Safety Guidelines CAMERAS: Perfomers' contract prohibits the use of Cameras and/or recording equipment and tape recorders unless authorized. TOILETS: Toilet facilities are located on the North and South sides of Pier A. Ladies are located on the North side; Mens are located on the South side. SMOKING: Please, no smoking in the orchestra seating section and in areas where it may be offensive to others. LOST & FOUND: Any articles left on Pier A will be turned in to the Port Authority Hoboken Waterfront Development Office, telephone number 963-7551. EMERGENCIES: Emergency ambulance units are located in the large open area directly in front of Pier A for any medical needs that may occur. STAGE ARRANGEMENTS: The barrier at the middle of the pier is a safety requirement related to the fireworks show. Please do not cross. Stage faces river for maximum acoustical enjoyment.
