Boxed set of railroad curves, catalog no. 1891B. Made by Keuffel & Esser Co., (N.Y.) Dated March 29, 1957. Oak case with partitioned and labeled interior for 50 piece set of plastic (Luxylite) curves from 1-1/2" radius to 120" radius Box with hinged lid, 21-1/4" wide x 5-3/4" deep x 4-1/2" high. Machined clear plastic curves range from the smallest at 2-3/4" wide x 2-1/4" high to 18" wide x 2" high; all present and in order. All are stamped with K+E logo, company name, radius size, material brand name - Luxylite, plus radial center line.
Box has no K&E label. Ink stamped stock no. 1891B inside lid. (See condition notes re old label; no K&E label found.) The date is stamped to the left inside lid. Note: date of manufacture (which may be the box only, not the curves) is not necessarily the date of sale. This set may have been sold up to several years after that date.
This is the mid-sized set of three offered by the company. Size increments: 1/2" from 1-1/2" to 12"; 2" from 12" to 40"; 5" from 40" to 100"; 10" from 100" to 120". These circular curves for drafting and design work had parallel edges so that the curve could be drawn using either edge.
K+E factory was in Hoboken during the period of when it was made.
