Curator’s talk: “Hoboken – Late 1970s: Photos by Peter and Jack Mecca”

July 12, 2020 @ 12:00 am

On Tuesday, July 14, at 7 pm, join photographers Peter and Jack Mecca live on YouTube, hosted by Museum Director Bob Foster and Rand Hoppe, for a curator’s talk about the brothers’ photographs of Hoboken in the late 1970s. The photographers will discuss the images as they are displayed online, and viewers can submit questions and comments during the event to the hosts. The livestreamed event will run from 7 to 8 pm online. The photographs are on view in the Museum’s Upper Gallery through July 19.

The richly colored photographs capture Hoboken at a turning point in its history, between its industrial heyday of the early to mid-1960s and its reemergence in the 1980s-90s as a largely residential community for NY commuters. The brothers created a video of these images that is easily accessible at the link below on the Museum’s YouTube channel.

The Museum and its Upper Gallery are open to a limited number of visitors during the Museum’s normal hours, as long as visitors wear masks, observe social distancing and take advantage of our sink or hand sanitizing stations.

The exhibit is supported by a block grant from the State/County Partnership program for the Arts, administered by the Hudson County Division of Cultural and Heritage Affairs.
