Hispanic Heritage Month Film Screening

October 19 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

On Saturday October 19, 2024, at 7:00pm, the Thomas Edison Film Festival (TEFF) and the Hoboken Historical Museum present a selection of three award-winning films in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.

“Shura” is a story of an octogenarian woman’s powerful commitment and mission to provide aid to migrants crossing the border and helping to save lives in the harsh and ruthless elements of the Arizona desert. “Shura: The Trail is Never Paved” by filmmakers David Damian Figueroa and Kayvon Derek Shanian, is a remarkable documentary inspiring change.

“Gabriela” tells of a young undocumented Guatemalan woman who questions her worth as she dreams of joining a country club swim team in the American south. “Gabriella” was written, directed, and stars Evelyn Lorena, the winner of the Netflix and Latino Film Institute’s Indigenous Latino Fellowship.

The program also includes “Daniel Lind-Ramos” by Ian Forster, senior producer of the Emmy-Award winning ART21, whose vision is to inspire a more creative and inclusive world through the works of contemporary artists. Puerto Rican artist Daniel Lind-Ramos combs the beaches and streets in his hometown of Loíza for palm fronds, items that wash up on the shore, and discarded everyday materials that speak to the story of the Caribbean.

TEFF festival director Jane Steuerwald will present the films and lead a Q&A following the screening. Admission is free to the public.
