June 13, 2022 @ 12:00 am
Join us online Thursday, June 16 at 7pm as Hoboken Talks continues our PRIDE-themed month with guest Jose Fernandez, interviewed by host Mark Singleton.
Jose and Mark have know each other since High School. They’ll talk about Jose’s experience as a gay youth in Hoboken in the 70’s, and what it was like coming out to his old world parents. The Museum is so happy to welcome Jose to talk about his experiences of being gay in American and Hoboken, and to add this Talk to our growing YouTube online archive. It promises to be a FUN, enlightening, and moving conversation.
Jose was born in Cuba in 1955, and emigrated to the US with his parents in 1970. He lived in Hoboken and graduated from Hoboken High School in 1975 and St. Peter’s University in 1979. He was a member of the NYC Gay Men’s Chorus from 1982 – 1998, and they’ll also talk about how he was affected by the AIDS epidemic. Jose married his husband Stephen Kimmerling in 2013.
