Rabbi Scheinberg has served as rabbi at the United Synagogue of Hoboken, a conservative egalitarian congregation, since 1997. As Rabbi of the United Synagogue of Hoboken, Rabbi Robert Scheinberg has steered our century-old Jewish community through a period of unprecedented growth and revival. An engaging teacher and speaker and an accomplished musician, he previously served congregations in Massachusetts and Alabama.
Rabbi Scheinberg is also a scholar and teacher in the field of Jewish liturgy, holding a Ph.D. in Liturgy from the Jewish Theological Seminary. Rabbi Scheinberg also trains rabbinical and cantorial students at the Jewish Theological Seminary and the Academy for Jewish Religion and has served on the editorial committees for the prayerbooks published by the Rabbinical Assembly.
He holds leadership positions with the Hoboken Clergy Coalition and the Hudson County Interfaith Brotherhood/Sisterhood Association, as well as the Rabbinical Assembly. He lives in Hoboken with his wife, Rabbi Naomi Kalish, a professor at the Jewish Theological Seminary, and their three daughters.
