Hoboken Talks with James Mastro

February 21 @ 12:00 am

Please join us on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 7pm when James Mastro sits down with Jack Silbert for a special interview on Hoboken Talks.

James is a guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, producer and singer-songwriter. At the age of 16, he started playing at CBGB’s and Max’s Kansas City at the height of their punk glory. He moved to Hoboken in 1980, where he joined The Bongos and was instrumental in elevating the music scene at our very own iconic rock club, Maxwell’s. James went on to form the band, Health & Happiness Show, in the 90s. He has toured the world dozens of times as a guitarist for Patti Smith, John Cale, and The Jayhawks, and opened on tour for Johnny Cash, Wilco, and Barenaked Ladies, among other amazing musicians.

It’s important to note another crucial contribution of Jim’s is developing the next generation of musicians. Jim is the founder of Guitar Bar, where you can shop for musical instruments or obtain music lessons, with locations in Hoboken and Jersey City. James also recently opened the 503 Social Club, which is a new art gallery and music space, filling a much needed niche in Hoboken.

James has a new album dropping this February called “Dawn of a New Error” on MPress Records, which was produced by Tony Shanahan. He’ll be sharing his new music on tour, kicking off on February 21 at the Bowery Electric.

Please join us on February 29 to hear stories about Maxwell’s, his new album, and more from James!
