New exhibit alert! 

The Hoboken Historical Museum is excited to invite you to the opening reception of our next exhibit in the Upper Gallery, “Hoboken Photography” by Kurt Gardiner on Sunday, August 9th from 2 PM – 5 PM!

A native of Saratoga Springs, New York, Kurt Gardiner moved to NYC to work as a project manager for a health insurance company. He eventually made his way across the river to Hoboken in 2003. He had never studied art, but was inspired by our city’s creatives and artists.

Kurt’s life changed drastically on April 21, 2019 when he experienced a stroke in the middle of the night. He had lost feeling on the right side of his body. It was a 2-year recovery of learning how to talk and walk again. At 6 foot 8, this was not a straightforward feat.

While there were many challenges, Kurt found a new source of creativity that was essential to his recovery – landscape photography. He felt called to capture Hoboken’s picturesque beauty. Kurt began converting his photos into coasters and selling them on Etsy and around town, most frequently outside of Bwe cafe. He held his first art show at D’s Soulful Cafe in 2021 and felt the support of Hoboken’s vibrant arts community.

This is Kurt’s first exhibit at the Hoboken Historical Museum. His photos of Hoboken are a loving tribute to our city. We thank him for showing us the power of creative expression as a path towards healing and wellness.
