20130303 – Map Talk: John Gomez

“Mapping Monuments, Part I”

“Mapping Monuments, Part I,” John Gomez, Architectural Historian

March 3, 2013 • 4pm

Take an experiential journey and architectural survey of Hudson County’s twelve historic municipalities across two centuries with noted architectural historian John Gomez on Sunday, March 3, and Sunday, April 7, at 4 p.m. Gomez will share insights and images of some of the County’s most recognized – and sometimes hidden — built heritage.

Given the scope of the subject, the talk will take place in two parts: “Mapping Monuments (Part I),” on Sunday, March 3, will cover Hoboken, Jersey City, Union City, West New York, Weehawken, Guttenberg and North Bergen. “Mapping Monuments (Part II),” on Sunday, April 7, will cover Bayonne, Secaucus, Kearny, East Newark and Harrison.

Gomez earned his Master of Science degree in Historic Preservation from Columbia University and is a member of the Museum’s History Advisory Board and founder of the Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy. In addition, he has been writing a column on architecture and preservation for the Jersey Journal since 2004. He tweets about historic preservation under the Twitter account @preservationtv.
