Object/Artifact
Tulsa trademark Wyteface "A" oil gaugers' inage 50 foot steel tape measure on reel, NW7802, made by Keuffel & Esser Company, New York & Hoboken, N.J., issued circa 1945-1960. Steel tape, 50 feet x 3/8" wide, Wyteface (brand name) finish (black markings on white background); swivel snap hook end at circa 9" for plumb bob; stainless steel frame reel with black painted finish with self-locking crank handle (tape length, "50F", stamped on crank outside); nameplate with manufacturer's name on reel. Wood handle with black painted finish (no name stamped on handle as depicted in catalogue.) Overall dimensions: 10-1/4" x 4-1/2" x 1-1/2". No bob.
Tape markings divided in feet, inches and eighths. The graduations on the tape are designed to incorporate the length of the bob, zero at the bottom, and swivel snap, so readings on the tape itself start at about 9 inches, thus the use of the term "inage."
Product model number does not appear on item, but was determined from catalogues.
K&E main offices and factory were in Hoboken during the period when this item was manufactured.
