Paragon proportional dividers, 10", model 806, distributed by Keuffel & Esser Co., N.Y. No date, circa 1955-1970. Stainless steel, closed: 10" long x 1/2" wide x 7/8" thick. With: hinged wood case covered in black grained paper; green velvet lining; printed metal plate inset on bottom of box: "Table of Settings."
A tool with many uses for architects, engineers, mapmakers, modelmakers, tool & die makers, drafting room employees and more. Price in 1954 was $37.50 which would be ca. $301 in 2008 dollars.
Model number does not appear on item, but it corresponds to the model 806 depicted and described in 42nd edition catalog with a small difference. While drawings of items in catalogues often varied from the actual item, the difference between the item depicted and the object here: there are screws on this object for the replacement of the points. In the catalog they are not shown. (They are shown on the "Anvil" 906-1, which was a smaller version; it is seen next to the "Paragon").
Item is marked on outside face with K&E logo followed by "Germany" and product brand "Paragon" along with very small numbers "105" on an inside face.
This is an example of one of many items imported or made outside of Hoboken and sold by the company. K & E main offices and factories were in Hoboken prior to December 1968.
