Collections Item Detail
Button: [American Red Cross], 1919.
Object/Artifact
Button: For Victory; GOP. No date, circa 1917-1918. Printed paper with clear celluloid on metal badge, 5/8" diameter, pin back. Back has imprint of manufacturer: J. Keil Co., Betz Bldg., Philadephia.
GOP is G.O.P. or "Grand Old Party" which was the nickname of the Republican Party. This political and patriotic button is apparently from World War I. It depicts the U.S. flag at center with the flags of allies displayed from left: Great Britain, Belgium(?), Italy, France. Below is a keystone with the letters "GOP."
A World War One item that could have typically been worn by a Hoboken resident, but it does not have a defined Hoboken provenance.
