Object/Artifact
Salad or dessert plate from Meyers Hotel, Hoboken. No date, circa 1925-1940. Tan china, 8" diameter;rim decorated with brown outer ring and contiguous russet inner ring; "Meyers" on rim in light brown deco-style lettering. Backstamp: Glo-Tan, Carr China.
Meyers (or Meyer's) Hotel was at Third and Hudson Streets, Hoboken and had dining rooms throughout its history. While it is possible that Carr China had other customers with the same name, it is most likely that this was from the Hoboken hotel.
Carr China was in business from 1916 to 1952. The simple backstamp (maker's mark) would probably date it from the earlier period as later backstamps have added lines such as "Made in U.S.A." or the company's city. The Glo-Tan line was a light tan china and apparently priced at a premium. The decoration style on this item is among the simpler styles they used.
