Dartmouth Metallic Woven Tape measure, 7442T, made by Keuffel & Esser Co., New York, no date, circa 1920-1940. Embossed leather covered metal case, 3-1/8" diameter x 7/8" thick, with nickel plated folding crank handle; 25 foot long x 5/8" wide white woven tape with black graduations, feet, inches and half inches; ring end in measurements. Reverse of tape end has circa 5" long leather reinforcement sewn ending at circa 6-3/4" mark; only 1-3/4" of original reinforcement remains on this object.
Product line and manufacturer's name appear in embossed lettering on both sides. Tape length is marked marked on crank handle. Model number does not appear on object.
While the Dartmouth line precedes the 36th edition catalog of 1921, a tape in this line with 1/2" markings was first offered in that catalog and through the 38th edition in the leather case. (Interim war edition, 39th, was issued in 1943.)
