This item accompanied a boxed instrument, K&E model 5113 Architect's Y Level with Compass (objects catalog 2009.006.0266), which has been dated as 1906 from the serial number. The instrument fits the tripod mount in all details and as described in the catalogues of that period, this tripod was issued with the instrument as part of the standard kit, thus it is dated as 1906. As noted in the catalogue it is essentially the same as 5175, but lighter weight. K&E had their factories in Hoboken when it was made.
