Notes: When the company left Hoboken has not been determined, but it was apparently gone by the mid-1960s. (It would appear it was purchased by a another company as part of ongoing consolidation in the dairy industries including changes in dairy product distribution, i.e. home delivery was diminishing and most people bought the products in retail outlets. Also a changeover to paper cartons was underway. Per Greg Lance via email 2012: About 1955 - 1957 [Janssen] was acquired by Foremost Dairies. Foremost was the name of a cow owned by J.C. Penny down south and the famous store owner also started a dairy there and the Foremost brand spread. It would later merge with McKesson Pharmaceutical Company of San Francisco forming Foremost-McKesson. This concern developed the "Magic Shell" desert topping that is now owned by Smuckers. The dairy was later spun off after some corporate problems on the drug side. Meanwhile Foremost pulled out of North Jersey, was sold to Atzigen Whitewhite dairy which is no longer. We had milk delivered by all the companies listed above from 1950-60 in nearby Jersey City, NJ. Janssen merged with Chardovoyne Dairy, around late 40's before selling out to Foremost. Foremost once distributed Dolly Madison ice cream as well as Foremost and a cheaper brand, Darlene, in the 1950's. Foremost dairy products are still being sold in other parts of the U.S. They might be a part of Dean Foods. Status: OK Status By: dw Status Date: 2010-08-16
