Bottle, milk: Greten's Dairy, Hoboken, N.J. One Qt. Store Bottle. N.d., ca. 1930s.
Object/Artifact
Greten's Dairy, Hoboken, N.J. One Quart Store Bottle. Five cent deposit. No date, circa 1930s. Clear glass with embossed lettering, hobnail grip neck; 4-3/4" diameter x 9-9/16" high. Two each.
Richard C. Greten had a store at 537 Garden St. (southeast corner of Sixth and Garden Streets), Hoboken in 1926 (a 1918 dairy listing see notes). It was not listed as a dairy in city directory. It is likely this was a retail market where dairy products were the specialty. The bottle was a store bottle marked as such and required a deposit to guarantee its return to the store.
Front: "Store Bottle" inside circle as body tapers to neck; below inside circle: Greten's Dairy, Hoboken, N.J.; at foot in two lines: "Registered" and "123"
Back: 5¢ [five cents] in inside circle as bottom tapers to neck; below in straight lines "One Quart | Liquid"; at base in one line: "A .B.C.2"
Neck as has two tiers of hobnails circling it.
Base has large lettering "R H G" with "5¢" [five cents] above and below them; to right of 'G' is "26" running perpendicular to it.
