Object/Artifact
Sign panel: The Character Social Club, Members Only. Removed from exterior entrance at 111 Monroe Street, Hoboken, in 2011. Clear 1/8" plastic sheet (plexiglas), 13-1/4" high x 37-1/2" wide, with offwhite spray paint on back; black vinyl applied lettering on front; small printed sticker at lower right of World Trade Center with American flag; two mounting holes.
The building was demolished 2011. Photographs by Joyce Fetterman (Credit: Photos by Joyce Fetterman; see notes for source) show this panel mounted over the doorway on the face of the roll-up gate cabinet. It is seen with the two mounting screws and the sticker. It is not one of the panels from the hanging sign which is also seen in the general street view (two reference images are seen: one by Fetterman and another by Don Sichler which was apparently taken when demolition was underway as the aluminum siding is mostly removed.)
Date of sign is estimated. Condition is good which may be related to its being protected from the weather by the awning as well as suggesting it was not older than 20 years or so when removed as the lettering does not show shrinkage or delamination. The World Trade Center sticker was obviously put there after 2001.
