This token does not have a Hoboken provenance, but it is held as a typical example of what local residents would have used in daily life for transport. It is for one fare, money value not stated. Used for streetcar or trolley as well as bus service that was provided in Hoboken at this time. The "Coordinated" in the company name was first used in 1928 when it was created by the merger of several operations. Side 1: Good for One Fare; [facsimile signature] Thomas N. McCarter, [block letters] Pres. Floating center lozenge with depiction of a bus or autobus. Side 2: Public Service Coordinated Transport NJ Floating center lozenge with depiction of an electric streetcar. McCarter is considered the creator of Public Service Coordinated Transport. A couple of the predecessor companies, some from the 19th century, used Public Service in their name. (A related division was Public Service Electric & Gas, PSE&G.) He was the head of the company until 1939.
