Object/Artifact
Milk bottle: Janssen / Glendale cream top 1 quart bottle. (Hoboken), 1950. Square clear glass bottle with raised diagonal lettering of company names on opposite sides of the bulb neck, 3-1/4" square x 9-1/2" high.
Base has Duraglas trademark lettering and also maker's mark. It was manufactured by Owens-Illinois and carries its brand mark: O (or oval) with an I inside crossed by a diamond. This logo is flanked by two code numbers: 17, left of mark for plant 17; right of brand mark, 50, which is considered as the year, thus 1950.
While the city name or address does not appear on the bottle, Janssen was a longtime local dairy processor and operated in Hoboken until probably the early 1960s, the end date not established at this time.
