Souvenir spoon: Hoboken, N.J. Engraved depiction of marsh with mosquito. Circa 1921. Sterling silver, engraved, 3-7/8" long (demitasse). Maker's mark on neck; patent date.
Commercially produced flatware; possible engraving for commemorative or souvenir sales purposes done locally. The symbolic mosquito image referred to a problem that was common for Hoboken with marsh or wetlands in the west and north for many decades. The issue of summertime infestations were remarked upon repeatedly in artwork and text.
Maker: Whiting Manufacturing Company, New York.
