Scope and ContentBlack photograph album with 22 different images documenting damages and repair work on an unidentified vessel, Bethlehem Steel Shipyard, Hoboken, no date, ca. 1940. The album was found on the site of the former Bethlehem Steel Shipyard, Hoboken, ca. 1990. It was a commercially available album typical of the period, 9-7/8" wide x 11-3/4" high, black leather-grained cloth covered boards and stamped "Photographs" with decorations on the cover. All leaves are black paper; cover is detached. The intended use of the album is not indicated. Although not marked as such, the photographs were taken by William Craig, an employee of the shipyard. (Some of these images are also seen in accession 2001.001.) The photos were 7-5/8" x 9-1/2" double-weight prints, black-and-white or sepia-tone. A few were on album leaves as mounted with photo corners. The majority were not in there original sequence and were only laid-in along with multiple copies of some image. No identifying captions or legends in the album or on the photographs, although some have an oval ink stamp for the Bethlehem Steel Shipyard. The photographs have been individually catalogued in the photo catalog, 2002.188.0026 to 2002.188.0047.
