Photograph
Color photo of the Maxwell House Coffee plant from a pier near 9th-10th Sts., Hoboken, [June] 1982. 3-1/2" x 5" print. Photographer probably donor Mel Kiernan or family. Reverse is blank except for processor's logo and date, July 1982. (Image was probably taken in June 1982 as related images of a June event have same processing date.)
The plant was demolished in 2004. The view is looking northwest. At the right background are traveling cranes on piers at the Hoboken Shipyard, once the Bethlehem Steel Shipyard, and at this time owned by the Braswell Corporation, which ceased Hoboken operations in 1982. To the left of the cranes is the Lipton Tea building which has a sign atop it. The piers in the foreground became the Union Dry Dock & Repair Company facility which came to Hoboken ca. 1983-84. At the left, the large tree is in Elysian Park.
