Photograph
Digital image of sepia-tone photo of Mayor Fred M. DeSapio making a ceremonial contribution to Jewish hospital drive, City Hall, Hoboken, no date, ca. 1947-51. Original print 8" x 10" wide. Photographer indicated as Scully on reverse.
Reverse red-ink stamp "Observer" indicating this was a print for the newspaper Jersey Observer (ceased publication 1951) plus pencil text probably for the caption: Hoboken | Mayor DeSapio starts | the J.W.V. Drive | 3 Col | Jersey Observer | Photo | by Scully.
Mayor Sapio is seen putting money in the can. Mayor's hair style suggests it is ca. 1947 - 1950. No identification key for the four women and one man, all wearing organization caps or capes. The "J.W.V." was the Jewish War Veterans. The women were members of Ladies Auxilary No. 65.
The label on the cans indicates a fundraising drive for Veterans Hospital Fund.
