Photograph
Sepia-tone photo of signs and bunting celebrating the Seaboard Trust Company, Hoboken, 1933. 8" x 10" print. Photographer not known. Reverse has ink stamp of United Decorating Company and holographic pencil date "1933."
The event was the opening of Seaboard which took over and re-named the Second National Bank which was at 77 River St. This was during the "Great Depression" which saw many banks fail and re-opened under new ownership.
The view is looking south on River Street from the northwest corner of Newark and River Streets. The building at the left is 77 River St. At the end of River Street at Hudson Place is the streetcar terminal. On the west side of River St. is a sign for a hotel and restaurant which is probably Zimmerman's Hotel or the American Hotel. At the southeast corner of Newark and River Sts. is a police booth with directional sign to the Holland Tunnel. Some window lettering that can be read includes David Lev (law); Raymond J. Tiffany (law); The Terminal Realty Co.; Joseph J. Garrison (real estate & insurance).
The bunting and other decoration was done by United Decorating Company, 421 Washington St., Hoboken.
