Photograph
Digital image of photo of the Hoboken Playgrounds Field Band marching on Washington St., Hoboken, no date, circa 1940. Original image was ca. 4-1/2" wide x 2-3/4" high. Plus the black-and-white nitrate 70 mm negative of the same size as the print thus the print is possibly a contact print. Photographer not indicated (print made by the People's Studio.) Reverse has ink stamped processor's number: 29; also pencil notation "Fair." People are not identified.
The parade was probably the Decoration (Memorial) Day parade in late May. The clock seen at the street corner shows about two o'clock and the sun direction suggests they are marching north, so the view is looking southwest. The advertising clock was for Kramer's Jewelers which was at 514 Washington St.; it is probable that they are in the 500 block of Washington St. Other signage: Duffy's Rugs & Carpets; Arrow Groceries; Eagle Groceries; Castle Wine & Liquors. cf. photo catalog 2005.078.0537 for another view of this scene.
