The Portsmouth (it was actually the Portsmouth II) was based in Hoboken from 1895-1911. Used for New Jersey Naval Reserve or Militia training; First Battalion was based onboard this vessel. See search terms for a history of the vessel. The two cannons at the Civil War Soldiers Monument in Stevens Park are from this ship. This issue has more articles and news related to Hoboken that the first issue. Page 14: Memorial Day Parade. It describes the parade route which is rather serpentine - "Parade will start from Second and Hudson Streets... Hudson to Sixth, down Washington, to Newark, to Garden, to First, to Monroe, to Fourth, to Willow avenue, to Fifth, to Garden, to Tenth, to Park avenue, to Eleventh, to Washington, and there disband."
