Son of William Fletcher,a founder of the W. & A. Fletcher Co., shipbuilding and repair.
He is depicted at a desk holding an open book titled "How to Build Ships, Fletcher." The top book in the stack on the floor is titled "North River Iron Works." That was the original name of the company and was still a business entity of the Fletcher Company. A view out of the window shows a vessel in a dry dock.
