The company was better known as the American Lead Pencil Company as seen in the facsimile letterhead on page 18. It had a manufacturing complex on the north side of Fifth Street in Hoboken between Willow Avenue and Clinton Street.
"Venus" was the major brand name used by the company, but they had several other brands as seen on page 2, Alphabetical Index. Besides the very wide range of pencils for personal use as well as professional use (graphic arts, artists, etc.), the product range included erasers, rubber bands, fountain pens, pen holders, pouches, pencil boxes and even eyebrow pencils. Shown are many retail display fixtures for stocking and display of the products.
Pages 51-52 have an illustrated article: The Story of the Lead Pencil. It has history of the pencil and how pencils are made.
