Committee on Wharves & Ferries To the [Con'f], the Mayor, Alderman, and Commonally of the City of Hoboken. Gentlemen, The undersigned respectfully, and earnestly solicit Your [hon'b] body, for their influence with the "Hoboken Improvement Company", for the use of from 12 to 18 feet of space on the shore, near the City, for the purpose of erecting thereon an Entrance to a Floating Bath, which your petitioners are desiring of having built, for the enjoyment of their families & other Citizens, as well as Strangers visiting Hoboken for recreation. At present there is no suit- able establishment at Hoboken, or at a convenient point of New York where families may be accommodated, and have the privilege of learning the useful art of Swimming, [as] also the enjoying one of the most healthful luxuries of life. And your petitioners believe that a suitable Bathing Establishment properly conducted will - while contributing to the health and enjoyment of the Community add an attraction of no ordinary kind to the place; should the object and purposes of your petitioners meet with your approval, they humbly, but most earnestly solicit the aid of your honorable body in that behalf; and as in duty bound will ever pray.
