DescriptionBlack-and-white photo of Public Service streetcar 3585 with "Grove" [Street, Jersey City] destination sign, Hoboken, July 8, 1938. 3" x 5-1/4" wide print. Photographer not stated. Modern ink notation in lower margin; reverse has precious owners name and address stamp plus pencil notations "PSCT - 3585 Hoboken 7-8-38." PSCT is Public Service Coordinated Transport. This trolley would have been in the right-of-way between Hudson and Washington Streets (it was between 56 and 60 Hudson St. and probably 55 and 59 Washington St.) The car was inbound, just having crossed Court St., and heading to Hudson Street where once it crossed that street it would be entering the Public Service trolley terminal. The horizontal beams overhead in the background (two sets of five beams) that braced the buildings that trolleys ran between correspond to the beams seen in photo catalog 2002.105.0003.

Notes: If this scene was in Hoboken, the probable location that this car would have been in the right-of-way between Hudson and Washington Streets (it was between 56 and 60 Hudson St. and probably 55 and 59 Washington St.) The car would probably have been inound and approaching Washington St. The horizontal beams overhead in the background (two sets of five beams) that braced the buildings that trolleys ran between correspond to the beams seen in photo catalog 2002.105.0003, but the building to the right that is seen at the end of the corridor does not correspond to that location (it would have been the Hudson & Manhattan Railroad maintenance building which is much plainer and did not have a street level store.)
